VI. ADVISORY COMIMITEE AND SUPERVISORY
The Ph.D. students should be directed by a qualified major supervisor (Ph.D. graduate faculty), as well as a committee panel containing several qualified co-advisors/committee members. Students and supervisor choose each other after one month of the student’s graduate career. PhD students make the personal learning plan under the guidance of their advisors. The Advisory Committee initially consists of at least 4 members of the Graduate Faculty, including the Major Advisor, who acts as the chair. At least 2 members must be from the Department of Energy and Power Engineering, with at least 1 of these being a full member of the Graduate Faculty. The remaining 2 members may be from School of another college, with at least 1 being a full member of the Graduate Faculty. The committee should be established by the end of the second semester of the student’s graduate career.

VII. OTHER ISSUES AND REQUIREMENTS
1.Literature reading
Before the topic selection report in the 3rd semester, graduate students need to read no less than 80 articles of classical scientific literature and major academic journals, conducting literature reading and inquiry learning.
2.Thesis report
Topic-proposal reports are normally conducted after doctoral students have passed the qualification examination at the end of the 2nd semester. More than five associate professors, who are related to discipline or specialty, or are experts with equivalent professional and technical position, are hired to review the topic proposal reports. Of these associate professors, at least half must be professional and technical experts. After the topic-proposal reports are finally passed doctoral students, under the guidance of instructors, draw up a thesis report outline.
3.Thesis seminar
In principle seminars should be held not less than 1 time in each semester, and cumulative total should be not less than 6 times.
4. Periodic research reports
The related academic institution should gather more than three associate professors or experts with equivalent professional and technical position to form evaluation teams (including an instructor), then designate the head, and hold public reports. Afterwards graduate students make a comprehensive introduction about the working condition of periodic research, the evaluation teams will question, and point out existing problems, and suggest improvements.
5. Published papers
Each doctoral student must publish at least three academic dissertations in international journals.

VIII. DISSERTATION
The level of the quality of doctoral thesis is an important comprehensive measure of doctoral training quality and academic standards. Dissertation can include: basic research, applied basic research, and Engineering application research, particularly to strengthen the study of the frontier disciplines and the field of cross interdisciplinary penetration, solving major issues at the forefront of high-tech development, presenting new concepts, new theories, new methods, and new technologies. The thesis should reflect that the author has grasped solid and wide basic theory as well as systemic expertise in this discipline. The dissertation should normally include two aspects:theoretical analysis and experimental research. It also should focus on the depth and breadth of content, highlighting the innovative and original insights or open up new areas. Dissertation should be, under the guidance of an instructor, completed by the doctoral students himself or herself to indicate that the author has the ability to undertake independent scientific research or to be independently responsible for the specialized technical work.
One of the fundamental criterion to evaluate a doctoral thesis is whether it achieved creative accomplishments in science or specific technology. The following facts shall be recognized as achieving a creative accomplishment:
1.Discovering valuable new phenomenon or regularities, proposing  new theoretical perspectives, further developing classical theories.
2.Achieving important innovations in calculation or experimental techniques.
3.Proposing new scientific structure, technology or method that can obtain economic profits and social benefits.
4.Solving outstanding critical problems in science, technology, engineering or social science with existing knowledge creatively.
