Fen Qiao, professor, Ph.D. in engineering, postdoctoral researcher of Italian IIT Institute, director of the Institute of Solar Energy and Energy Storage Technology of Jiangsu University, review expert on electronics of the Economic and Information Commission, of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and of Jiangsu Province Science and Technology Innovation, member of Jiangsu Engineering Thermophysics Society, member of Chinese Chemical Society, and member of Jiangsu Refrigeration Society. Research expertise: 1. Solar cells: controllable synthesis of optoelectronic material structures, exploring the relationship between the performance, the microstructure and surface state of nanomaterials. 2. Energy storage materials and devices: supercapacitors, hydrogen storage materials and mechanism analysis. 3. Nano self-assembly technology: preparation, growth, and structure control of low-dimensional nanomaterials.

With increasingly serious environmental pollution, industrial low-carbonization has become the focus all over the world. It is also critical for China to vigorously develop a low-carbon economy to speed up economic development. Energy transition is a key to a country's economic transition and an important symbol of social progress. The realization of a low-carbon and order energy structure is the foundation of China's energy strategic positioning. In China, the development and utilization of traditional energy sources, such as the coal industry, petroleum, and thermal power, have greatly affected the natural ecology on which we depend for survival. Therefore, in the context of low carbon, the development of the energy structure in the direction of diversification and balance is not only the core issue of energy strategic transformation, but also a rational choice for the sustainable development of the national economic macro strategy. Starting from the reasons for the development of a low-carbon economy in China and the necessity of energy transition, this report focuses on the topics of new materials and new research fields, discusses how to maximize energy efficiency, and promotes the development of a low-carbon economy.
