A Successful Demonstration Open Class of "Heat Transfer"

On the morning of October 16, 2023, the school of energy and power engineering held a demonstration open class of the "Heat Transfer" course in Room 2303 of Jingjiang Building. This open class was taught by Associate Professor Bai Jin, and the teaching targets were the students in Class 21 of the department of energy and power. Young teachers from the teaching supervision of the college and the school, the college teaching assistant training period and the lecturer training period were present to observe.

In the open class, the main content taught by Associate Professor Bai Jin is Chapter 4 of Heat Transfer: Numerical Solutions to Heat Conduction Problems. First, Bai Jin introduced engineering and scientific research cases in thermal science and showed dynamic cloud diagrams of numerical simulation calculation results, allowing students to realize the importance of numerical calculation methods. This stimulated students' interest in learning new knowledge and new tools, and their enthusiasm for participating in scientific research. By analogy with common sense in life, Bai Jin used the relationship between picture resolution and clear pictures to introduce "regional discreteness" concept. He used the simplest words to describe complex knowledge which was easy to understand. He patiently explained the method of "establishing nodal algebraic equations". Through the group interaction, student explanation sessions, the teacher guided students' independent analysis and completed various tasks. This teaching method effectively increased the frequency of students' participation in teaching activities. Finally, through group exercises, the learning task of solving the nodal algebraic equations is completed. Vivid and interesting teaching cases, simple-to-deep teaching methods, and a good interactive teaching atmosphere break students' inherent perception of boring professional basic course knowledge, and the "teaching" and "learning" effects are outstanding.

The opening of this demonstration course "Heat Transfer" has played a positive role in promoting the further construction of first-class courses in the school. At the same time, it has provided good learning opportunities and communication platforms for young teachers in the school, inspiring and expanding the talents of young teachers. Teaching enthusiasm and teaching ideas can help improve the professional skills of young teachers.
