On January 10, Chen Chunguang, associate researcher of the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to give an academic report to the School of Energy and Power Engineering. The report was presided over by Mr. Zhou Lei of the Institute of Energy Storage Technology. A number of teachers and graduate students from the School of Energy and the School of Automotive attended the report.

Mr. Chen Chunguang gave an academic report entitled "Fatigue Life and Statistical Characteristics of Lithium Batteries in Different Service Environments", introducing the life attenuation of commercial lithium-ion batteries under different working conditions. Mr. Chen first introduced the history, development and research direction of the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Then, the importance of lithium-ion battery R&D and reliability research is elaborated, and the reasons for the performance degradation of the battery during cycling are explained. In view of the failure of electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries, Mr. Chen proposed the C-N criterion for the service life of batteries. This criterion can effectively predict the service life of lithium batteries, and provides a new idea based on mechanical principles for the cycle life analysis, health management and optimization of lithium batteries. In addition, Mr. Chen further revealed the mechanical-electro-chemical coupling simulation and electrode failure mechanism of lithium batteries. Finally, Mr. Chen summarized and looked forward to the real-time estimation of the health status of lithium batteries. The academic reports were brilliant and inspired teachers and students to think associatively.

In the exchange session, the participating teachers and students actively interacted, and Mr. Chen answered them one by one, and encouraged interested students to improve their scientific research ability, looking forward to in-depth exchanges in the future.

Chunguang Chen joined the Institute of Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2021 as an associate researcher. In 2019, he obtained a doctorate degree from the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, mainly engaged in the research of energy system reliability and multi-scale simulation, and has achieved a series of valuable scientific research results in the life prediction, health state estimation, material structure stability and other research of lithium battery system. Some of the results have been published in academic journals such as Nature Communications and Advanced Energy Materials.
