Demonstration Open Class on Carbon Neutral Technology
Date:October 23, 2025 View:

On October 20, 2025, the School of Energy and Power Engineering successfully held a university-level demonstration open class on the course 'Carbon Neutral Technology' in Room 2103 of Jingjiang Building. The class was taught by Lecturer Rong Zhenzhou and was intended for the 2023 cohort of students majoring in Energy Storage Science and Engineering. Young teachers in the assistant training period and main lecturer training period attended the class to observe and learn.

During the open class, Lecturer Rong Zhenzhou focused on Chapter 5 of 'Carbon Neutral Technology', which covers the principles and technologies of CO₂ capture. At the beginning of the class, he first guided students to review the macro background of the carbon cycle and the "dual-carbon" strategy, clarifying the key position of this chapter within the overall course knowledge system, helping students establish a systematic learning perspective.

Subsequently, instead of following a traditional straightforward lecture, Rong innovatively used a cutting-edge research project on 'Energy and mass transport and regulation mechanisms in CO2 capture processes using molten salts/metal oxides' as a vivid case study, integrating it throughout the course's key points. He clearly explained the scientific principles behind mainstream carbon capture technologies, thoroughly analyzed the technical challenges and innovative approaches from adsorbent design to reaction process regulation, and encouraged students to consider, from an energy storage perspective, the potential for synergistic optimization of carbon capture and thermal storage technologies. This inspired students' interest in scientific exploration and created an active and efficient classroom atmosphere.

This open class deeply integrated research thinking and methods into teaching, allowing students to experience firsthand how to distill scientific questions from engineering phenomena and how to use multidisciplinary knowledge to solve complex engineering problems. It effectively exemplified the advanced concept of 'integration of science and education.' This not only improved the students' professional knowledge but also subtly cultivated their innovative thinking, scientific research literacy, and sense of mission in serving the national "dual-carbon" strategy, achieving a harmonious combination of professional knowledge teaching and ideological education.

The successful holding of this 'Carbon Neutral Technology' demonstration open class provided an innovative model for curriculum development in the Energy Storage Science and Engineering program and offered valuable experience and insights for young teachers in the school on how to effectively practice 'integration of science and education' in teaching reform, achieving complete success.
