Invited Academic Report by Prof. Zheng Menglian from Zhejiang University
Date:December 3, 2025 View:

On December 1, Associate Professor Zheng Menglian from the College of Energy Engineering at Zhejiang University was invited to our university to give an academic report titled "Flow Battery Flow Channel Design—From Empirical-Based Design to Semi-Empirical Design." Faculty and students from the School of Energy and Power Engineering and the Energy Research Institute attended the report, which was hosted by Associate Professor Zhang Yi from the School of Energy and Power Engineering.

Associate Professor Zheng Menglian shared her team's research progress on flow channel design and zoning strategies in flow batteries. Her team established a three-dimensional multi-scale model incorporating flow channel structures and porous electrodes, and introduced deep neural networks for rapid prediction to provide spatially resolved evaluation tools for optimizing flow field schemes. On the other hand, they constructed macropores within the electrodes to establish criteria for matching flow channels and bipolar pores. On this basis, they further designed hierarchical porous electrodes to simultaneously improve the efficiency and lifespan of deposition-type flow batteries at high current densities. The report also detailed her team’s years of research journey, sharing scientific experiences from identifying problems to finding solutions, and ultimately forming theoretical insights.

After the report, Associate Professor Zheng Menglian engaged in exchanges and discussions with attendees, sharing future research directions and challenges. This academic report not only deepened teachers' and students' understanding of cutting-edge issues in flow battery energy storage technology but also provided valuable inspiration for researchers in related fields.
